Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest 2017 Annual General Meeting

 

K-W Oktoberfest Inc. Annual General Meeting
DATE & TIME: Tuesday, February 21, 2017 - 7:30 p.m.
PLACE: Concordia Club – Main Hall, 429 Ottawa Street South, Kitchener.

The year 2016 was both challenging and exciting for Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest. The 48th edition of Canada's Greatest Bavarian Festival included unique Family & Cultural Events; exciting entertainment; new events and activities; ongoing enthusiastic participation in Festhallen; as well as continued growth. All this came together for Alfred Lowrick, President of K-W Oktoberfest Inc., to oversee another successful Festival.

During the Annual General Meeting, Alfred Lowrick will be reviewing the highlights of the 2016 Festival and ushering in the Board of Directors for 2017. The incoming president, Margo Jones, will present her vision and direction for the 2017-2018 Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest Festivals.

Each media representative will be provided with a press kit containing copies of the remarks by Alfred Lowrick and Margo Jones, and lists of the 2017 Board of Directors and the Community Advisory Council.

Mr. Lowrick will be available from 7:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. to have direct interviews with the media and both he, and incoming president, Margo Jones, will be available after the Annual General Meeting at approximately 8:30 p.m.

New President Margo Jones Bio:

Margo has been involved with a variety of Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest committees for more than 12 years most recently as 1st Vice President and before that Director of Event Productions and Chair of the Women of the Year Committee up until 2012. Margo has also lent her event management expertise to the Miss Oktoberfest Gala Ball and A Blooming Affair Fashion Show committees and has worked with the Festhallen and Community Advisory Councils.

Margo’s professional career includes 17 years with IBM Canada Ltd, followed by 7 years at Open Text where she guided teams to successfully execute North American and European Client Conferences and world-wide sales team events to recognize their outstanding achievements. Over the past 11 years, Margo has been working at the Waterloo Catholic District School Board where she has been instrumental in expanding their international education program. She welcomes student to our region from Korea, China, Colombia, Ecuador, Germany and many other countries, to study in Waterloo Region and complete their Ontario High School education and pursue a North American post-secondary education.

She has held many volunteer positions in the community working with organizations such as Theatre & Company, MADD Canada, Junior Achievement and the Spirit Awards.

Margo has been happily married to Malcolm for 41 years and together they have two children, Brent and Brad, two daughters-in-law Kim and Michelle, plus two wonderful grandchildren.

Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest is a not-for-profit Bavarian festival founded in 1969 by a group of volunteers committed to contributing to the social and economic vitality of Kitchener-Waterloo, Canada twin cities with German heritage. Canada's Greatest Bavarian Festival celebrates German heritage, food, music and festivities and is supported by more than 50 not-for-profit organizations.
